Making bacon even better

Posted on January 29, 2011

Mmm, sizzling salty goodness

It’s the thing that tempts vegetarians back to the dark side, says folklore. It’s salty, delicious and best when it’s just on the brink of being cremated. You don’t need to mess about with bacon – it does a marvellous job all by itself.

But there’s one thing that could perhaps be improved. Isn’t bacon a little bit…well…plain? A dull kind of pink with a thread of fat around the outside, it’s really not that exciting to look at. With that or goodness knows what else in mind, one design company took it upon themselves to laser patterns onto bacon.

The brainchild of Repper Patterns (everybody loves patterns!), the designer bacon was created by etching patterns on with a laser. Just as good, they’ve also turned their light beam on fruit to make a beautiful banana.

It’s a whole new twist on the idea of visually appealing food. I can’t quite decide whether I’d feel guilty for eating something so pretty, or mildly repulsed for eating something so strange.
